How we help – advice on mobility equipment and modifications to help the aged in Hampshire, Sussex and Surrey
Q. I like my house the way it is. How can I find out what is
available to help me, without changing things too much?
A. We understand very well that even small changes are uncomfortable, but it may be that a very small item can help you live much more easily.
Our staff see lots of different situations and may be able to suggest what
might suit you. Alternatively, we can arrange for a specialist, such as an
Occupational Therapist (OT), to come and advise what might suit you best.
Q. I am finding it difficult to get up and downstairs. Does this mean I cannot
stay in my home any longer?
A. No. Lots of people arrange their houses in slightly different ways to be able
to cope when using the stairs becomes difficult. Stairlifts are one possibility,
and even moving into a downstairs room, if you have a bathroom (or could arrange
a bathroom) on the ground floor. It is even possible to install a lift into a room to
take you up to your bedroom.
Making sure your house is safe
Q. I live in quite a remote area, and am beginning to feel less safe being alone in my own home. What can I do about this?
A. There are a number of solutions that can help, from front door systems that you can operate to unlock the door from various locations around the house, to a call-out system that you can activate if you need help urgently. We can make suggestions that you and your family can consider before talking to specialists who will need to come and fit whatever you decide on.
Q. How do I know what I may be entitled to?
A. Our staff have lots of experience of what people in a similar situation to yours have a
right to claim and whom we may have helped in the past, by filling in the appropriate forms,
and contacting the responsible organisations.
